Long before the time we know, there was a tribe of legendary warriors, protecting all mankind from the forces of the dark. They were called the Dawners. The legend says that the Dawners were given their power from the universe, but that of course is highly questioned. The Dawners protected the world from evil for centuries, but even though they possessed godly powers, they weren't immortal. The might they had lengthened their lives, but many of them fell in battles of the Imperial War. It was a vicious war against the neighboring kingdoms which had allied up against the land of the Dawners. They lost the war, but just barely.

The conquerors shared the land and the kingdom of the Dawners ended upon the rule of the kingdom of Aidaisan. The kingdom was led by a generous and righteous queen, Sara Mija, the Lion Queen.

She was from the legendary tribe of Lion Warriors, a clan where every member of the royal family receives a golden locket which contains the soul of a lion. In combat, the Lion Warriors can summon the soul and take their lion form. The animal combines with their humanity and they take the form of a lion, but still remain standing with two feet. They get the strength and speed of the animal and that makes them almost unstoppable. Many possessors of this power have fallen to the path of evil and used their gift to gain more power and wealth just to themselves. Sara has had to expel many members of the royal court for this feat. Many say that Sara was a blessing to the Dawners’ people, since she has never forced the people to change the way of their life. Her rule bloomed and she led her army from a victory to another and Aidaisan kept growing peacefully. All was well before she met her husband, Joel Cortisair, the prince of the neighboring kingdom. They fell in love and both being exquisite in warcraft, they defended Aidaisan together and ruled the country with equality.

Even though Joel was now a king, the biggest power stayed with Sara and he was troubled about it. He wanted to be the ruler and tried to talk about it to Sara, but she said no repetitively. He was frustrated, but still agreed to serve on the side of his wife and they got a beautiful baby girl and they named her Laurell. Both Sara and Joel were so happy for their blessing so they threw a big festival to celebrate the birth of the Lion Princess. The people were happy and grateful for their rulers so they rejoiced on Laurell’s every birthday.

Years went by and Laurell grew. From a small toddler, she grew into a brisk ten year old and she was determined to become a Lion Warrior just like her mom. Naturally, Laurell had also a golden locket and her parents gave it to her as a birth gift. She has had it from her birth. She never takes it off except for a few short seconds to change the chain into a longer one. One day, on her 14th birthday, when her mother was brushing her thick brown hair she asked her: “Mommy, will I be a Lion Queen like you one day?”

“Of course you will. You are my blood and flesh, it’s your birthright.” Laurell looked up to her mother and smiled.

She carried on with her training, and when she was 17, something tragic happened. Her father, king Joel, had been building up his rage for the so-called injustice against him when his wife was the ruler, not him. In his home country, it was ruled by a heavy patriarchy and queens were just a mere formality. He had decided to seize the opportunity and murder queen Sara. “The tale of the Lion Queen ends now, and the era of the Lion King starts!” He had said to his servants and then got on the act.

When the night fell, he went to the queen’s chamber with a dagger hidden in his cape, with the intention to stab the queen to death and seize power. He rushed down the empty halls of the castle and once he got to Sara’s door, he pressed his ear gently against the door to hear if the queen was there. He could hear her humming to a melody. At this second, his heart ached from the thought of killing the woman he loved, but he hardened his mind and focused on the objective. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door: “My lovely, may I come in?” He hooted and waited for an answer. “Yes, come in.” Sounded Sara’s voice from the inside. He went in and Sara was waiting for him next to her makeup desk in her night dress. “There she is.” Said Joel and a fake smile rose to his red bearded face. “Hello, handsome. What gives me the honor?” Sara replied smugly and got up. They hugged and right before they would’ve let go, Joel reached out to the dagger and whispered to Sara’s ear with a shaking, teary voice: “I’m so sorry, my love. I’m doing this for the good of Aidaisan.” He stuck the dagger to Sara’s stomach and let go of her. She collapsed to the ground and her white dress got stained from blood. “Joel, wha-, why are you doing this?” Whispered Sara out with her last strength and finished: “Joel Cortisair, be afraid of my legacy, another Lion Queen will rise.” Then, she died. Joel broke into tears when he watched her beautiful wife’s lifeless corps and her deep brown hair getting soaked in blood. Her golden locket rested on her chest which will never rise again. He heard quiet sobbing from the door, and he turned around to see. It was Laurell, who had seen everything, her own father stabbing her mother and the dagger was still sticking up from Sara’s stomach. “How could you?!?” She shouted. “How could you?!?” Tears were dropping down from her eyes and they glimmered in the lively light of torches. “Just like she said, be afraid of her legacy. This isn’t over.” Laurell said and ran away, quietly crying. “Laurell Mija, get back here now!” Joel shouted, but Laurell kept running, she rushed up the stairs towards her own room and her friend from warrior school, Mikel Stark bumped onto her: “Ouch, Laurell, what all the fuss is about?”

“The queen is dead! The king murdered her!” Laurell screamed with tears in her eyes. “No, that can’t be true. Are you sure?”

“I saw it! I was there!” She screamed and ran away. She kept running until she reached her chamber. She went in and locked the door from the inside. She jumped onto her bed and pushed her face onto a pillow and cried so loud that you could hear it clearly even though the pillow suppressed the sound a little. Her world had fallen apart. Her mother was her biggest idol and she already wanted to be just like her, but now she wanted it even more. She couldn’t believe that her own father had killed her mother. Soon, the sorrow changed into hate and anger and then she made her biggest decision so far; she’ll become the next Lion Queen and she shall be the one to take her father down.
